Hi, I’m Ana-Roxana Pop,
a PhD student at Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics
I am a graduate student in the Department of Astronomy at Harvard University, working with Professor Lars Hernquist. I study a wide range of topics in galaxy evolution and high-energy astrophysics using numerical simulations.
I have recently completed two papers investigating the type of galaxy mergers responsible for forming shell galaxies in the Illustris cosmological simulations. While you are here, try identifying a few shell galaxies on this interactive page!
In the past, I have worked on studying particle acceleration in collisionless astrophysical plasma shocks, placing constraints on axion dark matter using data from dwarf spheroidal galaxies, and studying how galaxies lose their gas when falling into clusters. Currently, I am focusing on measuring X-ray emission and the Sunyaev–Zel'dovich signal, as well as analyzing large-scale shocks in an updated ensemble of numerical simulations - IllustrisTNG. I am also interested in high-resolution black hole simulations.
